Today, you can take application software originally developed as far back as the 1970s for monochrome dumb-terminals and teach it to create PDF files, exchange files with the client PC or server, interact with SQL databases, send emails, export to spreadsheets, and populate data on web pages. We have even built hybrid applications — part UBL, part .NET — that talk to each other over network sockets.

And if you have applications written in Business BASIC/UBL that are doing the job (or need a little modernizing), there is absolutely no danger that your ability to run them somewhere will disappear.

Moving UBL software to a different platform — Unix to Linux or Windows, on-premise to virtual or cloud servers — is straightforward to accomplish. Affari has done many BBasic-to-UBL conversions from Data General operating systems, SCO, and other flavors of Unix onto current Windows and Linux platforms.
